NYCC 2025 Brings Fresh Excitement for Series Development

The hopes and dreams of Something is Killing the Children Fans for a Netflix show were again renewed during NYCC this past weekend.  Many thanks to Jarrod Lundberg who took copious notes during the Scott's Collectables Livestream events with James Tynion IV on October 9 & 10.  Here's what we learned:

James was asked about any updates on the Netflix show.   His reply was very optimistic and he said a big Netflix announcement was coming and that it would be "bigger than what you would expect".  Based on my previous discussions with Boom's Film Development team, the next large milestone should be that the first season scripts are written and approved.  That said, something bigger than expected would be a commitment to move forward with the first season and, dare I say, that casting searching had begun!

Of course everyone needs to remain tight lipped as all are under Netflix corporate non-disclosure agreements.  I had heard from a source close to the project at the Dallas Fan Expo on June 1 that momentum ground to a halt last Fall and appeared dead.  This source had not received an update since March and wouldn't comment on the specifics.  But it seems a lot happened between March and June.  At the Exquisite Corpses Austin Event stop on June 20, James confirmed that at the end of 2024 it appeared the project was off.  However, he chuckled and said that Hollywood has fits and starts and since Spring 2025 the project was fully back on track.  

I'm hoping we get a very solid Netflix press release before the end of 2025.  Many feel that SiKtC is the logical successor to Stranger Things, which heads into it's final Season 5 with shows released in 3 batches on November 26, December 25 and the final episode on December 31.  Are the Netflix Marketing and PR departments getting ready to drive some excitement before the Stranger Things curtain closes?
